My Wife wanted to see “Three Cocks” 😳

A day trip to The Black Mountains in South Wales from The Cotswolds…

It was a gorgeous day so faced the dilemma of Barry Island or the Black Mountains, the latter was no contest! I should add that if our little grandson had been free we’d have taken him to the seaside at Barry!

Lovely drive across the Bridge and through the delightful little town of Usk to Abergavenny then following the stunning mountain road across to Hay-on-Wye via the the ruined Llanthony Priory and the delightful little church at Capel-y-ffin. The road is narrow and steep and claimed to be “closed” due to a land slip but we had no problem passing the offending area and up across the cattle grid (cattle guard) and we were immediately in the land of sheep!

The view at the top is one of the most phenomenal views you will see in this country!

Mrs Little got her wish and we returned via the magnificent garden centre at “Three Cocks” (😅) stopping briefly by the River Wye at Builth Wells and over the (almost) equally impressive mountain road to Brecon from where we had wonderful views of The Black Mountains in the distance.

The final drive back on the highway was inevitably tedious but worth it after such a wonderful day with perfect weather and scenery…..
