But it can take a tragic event like this to bring out true compassion….the woman who covered the murdered man with her body in the middle of the road to protect him from further abuse even though he was already dead. And the blonde haired woman shown in some of the photographs who remonstrated with one of the killers, face to face, his weapon still in his hand, telling him “it’s just you against the rest of us…..you cannot win”. She is a Cub Scout leader in Woolwich and she showed the kind of stoicism that is typical of the British even though she is an immigrant to the UK herself.

Our thoughts are with the murdered soldier’s family and comrades.

Well you’re not the only ones !

We have this bizarre annual contest across Europe which is compulsive viewing for one night as you witness the cringeworthy songs and then the voting which is almost entirely political !

With countries like Azerbaijan, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and for some strange (political) reason even Israel is in it – as well as the Western European nations – this show is intended to bring us all together in one happy family but…..

Now one issue is that whoever wins has to go to the expense of staging the show the following year and Ireland has has the misfortune to win more times than anyone else so consequently it’s songs are now crap in order to avoid winning again ! To that effect they successfully came LAST in last nights competition – a huge achievement for the Irish !!

We British are universally despised because we refuse to take the competition seriously – in fact we treat I’m in the same way that we treat our European “masters” generally – with contempt, cracking mocking jokes throughout !

So the various blocks all vote for each other – Cyprus votes for Greece, Sweden votes for Norway, Finland, Denmark etc……the scaredy cat Ukrainians vote for Russia…..you get the picture??

Anyway the UK came 19th out of 26 with eight points and seven of those came from our (usually) good friends, the Irish ! So it’s not just you Americans, it’s us English that are in the doghouse too !!!

Oh well it’s all over for another year !

David Beckham says tearful goodbye to his fans after his last professional game of football !

In my objective and totally unbiased view, Football is game for girls – lots of sobbing, hugging, kissing and faking and rolling around in agony! Prefer Rugby, a game for men…..and watched the brilliant Rugby European Final yesterday between two French sides – Toulon beat Clermont in a close match and Beckham’s Rugby “equivalent” – Jonny Wilkinson, won the game with his brilliant kicking !

Now if THAT sort of statement didn’t come from the “playing fields of Eton”, I’ll eat my hat !

But that doesn’t help us to identify the person who said this, because Cameron surrounds himself with “old boys” from his 35,000GBP a year school for the upper crust – so the comment could have come from anybody !
