Church of St Mary, Purton, Wiltshire – almost unique….!

…..if there is such a thing as “almost unique” and of couse there is not !

However, St. Mary’s is one of only three parish churches in the country that has both a central tower and spire and a western tower. The others are at nearby Wanborough in Wiltshire and Ormskirk in Lancashire. The central tower was built in c.1325 and the transepts were also added in the 14th century.

Yet another bike……but at least its not a mustang !!

In the interests of saving the world and moderation, I couldn’t resist this little 1989 Yamaha YB100 – it goes well…..35pmh into the wind and 55mph with the wind behind me…what more could one ask?

AND….it fits in the Van !

It means I can carry on with my old mates in the moped club next year without my back (and arse) being abused on the 49cc jobeee which has nearly shaken to bits !

Ok this one doesn’t have pedals but I can duct tape them on?

Frost on the Grass, Car and Thermometer !

Frost on the Grass, Car and Thermometer…..well I suppose it is the 28th November and the cold has been late coming to England.

The photo of my “resting” Van looking east to the sunrise, just before 8am gives a clue as to what we are to expect for the forthcoming week…..red sky in the morning etc….very wet and windy weather is on the menu for the week.

Anyway to all my friends – especially those who I haven’t seen or heard from for some time…..have a wonderful day and week !

My Father, Reg Little’s Blog….

For anyone interested in life in Britain in the 1930s and 40s may I recommend my Father, Reg Little’s blog. It is interesting to see how things have changed for any student studying life between the wars in the last century and the record of the life of one ordinary person as a child growing up, in wartime, in the army and how he met my mother !

Also there are the highly descriptive and atmospheric tales of live in 1950s Kingswear and Dartmouth written by Ian Giles which really are worth a read.

Feel free to indulge and enjoy by clicking here.

First frost – in Tetbury is rather late this year – 23rd November 2011 ! Then out for a ride on the bike dropping in at The Woolpack in Slad !

7.45am – Sunrise over our first frost – in Tetbury – rather late this year – 23rd November 2011 !

11.55am – As it wasn’t foggy and the road was dry I thought I’d take a ride out on the motorbike.

1:15pm – In the interest of research, I thought I’d pop in to the roadside pub at Slad, once frequented by the British Author, Laurie Lee who wrote the novel “Cider with Rosie” about life in the rural Cotswolds in the first world war! The Woolpack is a REAL pub…..sadly a increasingly unusual experience – you get a very friendly reception, no piped music, no gambling machines and no food in the bar – the excellent menu can be consumed in the adjacent rooms. The only noise is the animated discussion of men of a certain age discussing lawn mowers, football and the world in general.
