VISIT BRITAIN – looking to the future this is a useful resource for anyone wanting visit the UK…..one day….. 😳

Eight weeks ago a pause button was pressed on normality and we all complied in light of the madness of this crazy virus…..

Right now I should have been in Liverpool, on a Beatles tour, part of a wider tour of England but, due to Covid 19, I am locked down having said “goodbye” to my old mum ten weeks ago who I am not allowed to visit in the care home, last hugged my grandchildren two months ago…..up until last week I had not been more than a mile from the house and I have not been near a shop….food is delivered. Socialisation is by phone and “Zoom”, if we see a neighbour outside we hail them from a distance. If when out walking we see another person coming towards us….we are apprehensive?

I’m not whining !! Yes this is my life….but also, across the world, this is everyone else’s…..your life too? A run on toilet paper and flour…..we are all home baking – maybe the two are connected? If you want to call someone….they can’t pretend they are busy…..we all KNOW they are home 😃 !

For me 2020 is a washout – maybe 2021 too. I had a short tour in early March before we really got to grips with the virus here and I have a couple of tours “on hold” for the fall having had all my Spring and summer tours cancelled. So while my wife spring cleaned, baked and tended her garden, I decided to “realise” an idea I have had for a while now, to produce a video based on the theme:

What if I was only able to visit the British Isles once.

Where would I suggest people visit? What little secret places could I show them? How could my ideas and suggestions exceed even their highest expectations?

The selection of which locations out of our rich heritage, landscape and culture I would choose to recommend, to plan a semblance of a route, the selection of photographs (out of thousands), editing video clips, finding appropriate music to go with it…..and whether to break the habit of a lifetime and actually speak!! I knew it would take weeks possibly months. Well I have been working on it, most days for the past two months and I think its now ready. There are actually two videos…..one mainland “Great Britain” – thats England, Scotland and Wales…..and that takes a few minutes over an hour to watch. I have done a separate video on Ireland which lasts about an hour and a half. If you have a smart TV where you can view YouTube thats the best place to watch……the bigger the screen the better! Here is the video for England – I will publish the Ireland video tomorrow.

VISIT BRITAIN [England, Scotland and Wales] –

For those thinking they may like to visit the UK in the future these videos may be an invaluable source of information. For those of you who have already visited with me…..they should bring back wonderful memories. For others…..well you can fantasise to ward off evil Covid 19 spirits !!

As a “sequel” I am thinking about a short video about visiting D-Day beaches and countryside of Normandy, France.

I have been very lucky these past 15 years to have been working doing what I love – meeting people and proudly showing them our wonderful country – or should I say countries! Its a huge disappointment that it seems there will be no more tours this year…..particularly for the reason I love travelling across these islands myself – isn’t that selfish?? One tour that I was particularly looking forward to was six Australian ladies, farmer’s wives, who were craft workers and our journey was to take them through England, Wales and Scotland – including the Scottish Outer Hebrides islands visiting wool, tweed, cheese making, cooking and local food, as well as craft breweries, vineyards and whisky distilleries…..a fascinating tour but no, not to be!

And finally, I am lucky to have been able to drive a couple of miles and take my exercise in the most sublime little country lane. Sometimes while I walk, I see and hear the rumble of a nowadays, occasional, plane climbing, so I check my “App” and see it is something like the 11:15am from Heathrow to JFK!! I think to myself “Who on earth is on that plane and….why?”

Lets see what the future holds for us all…..stay well, stay safe…..
