The humiliation of Salisbury…..

A week ago today, persons unknown attacked two Salisbury residents with a nerve agent.

The people of this rural Cathedral city, known for its medieval Cathedral, copy of the Magna Carta and nearby archological marvel, Stonehenge, who were violated by this outrage, must wonder about the madness that has brought them notoriety of the wrong kind while the perpetrators of this dastardly crime still run free.

Many of my Customers have loved attending Evensong at the Cathedral and will not be able to believe what has happened here.

We need to think carefully over how we react to whoever has ordered and performed what amounts to an act of chemical warfare. Even today, a week later, traces of the substance is being found around the city and anyone who was in the cafe or the nearby pub where the victims were, have been advised to wash all clothing etc.

The fact that someone believes they are free to execute such an attack on our country is no less than a major humiliation. We have been weak in our response to camparable events in the past but this time it has to be different. Admittedly we are perfectly capable of repaying like with like but that would drag our standards down to the level of the bullying perpetrator. If it is discovered without reasonable doubt that responsibility for this outrage lies with another country, they should simply be shunned by this and any other country that feels vulnerable to their illegal, immoral and disgusting behaviour. Embassies should be closed without delay; assets frozen and nationals repatriated.

We cannot countinence a repetition of such an abomination again on our soil.
